Alex & Lee Fostering Art

Alex Mate & Lee Brooks began making jewelry in 1970 from shells, feathers, leather, cording, rusted tin cans, found objects, and anything which caught their eye in the hardware store (wire, sheet metal, clay, epoxy). They worked in both the fashion and art worlds, with Geoffrey Beene, Oscar de la Renta, as well as Spanish artist Salvador Dali. You can see some of their work in the Oakland Museum of Art.

We are a 501(c)(3) non profit organization committed to teaching art, enriching the lives of young men and women in the foster care system, as well as LGBTQ youth. Our goal is to nurture resourcefulness and creativity through art making.
